Yes Bill, W 748 is a good powder for 45-70. For top end loads. I have used it in 50 plus gr loads but the OP mentioned starting at 41 gr. he isn't developing enough pressure for a good burn. Triple Seven pellets under a sabot with a 250 gr. XTP, and I can regulate the .45-70 to hit the same POI as the Huntsman. That cuts out a little second guessing.
