Okay so one cursed day I decided to up my espresso game and switch over to a Breville Barista Express from an older, fairly basic Breville model (cafe roma). It's been almost 2 frustrating weeks of trying to dial in 3 different beans and scouring reddit and other coffee forums trying to find a way to get this damn ratio right. .

Breville is a pretty good company that makes solid equipment. It. Ones with a decent grinder, a frother, and other stuff. It's well reviewed and you would only need to buy Coffee and shot glasses. Both in the express, or as the standalone Smart Grinder Pro, it has many failure points (and the grinder just isn't very good quality). If a deep cleaning didn't fix it, you may be out of luck as it's likely a mechanical failure happening.

If you can go niche and bambino out the gate then that's the right move. You're mostly spot on -The Express has a few extra features over the Bambino Plus, namely a pressure gauge and brew temp PID but the tech is overall very similar. The Niche is a MUCH better grinder than the internal grinder on the Express, as is something like the DF64 ...This is most certainly no setup to win barista competitions, it has some compromises here and there, but overall those mid-range all-in-one machines like BBE or Lelit Anita tend to perform nicely as a home espresso unit... ….
