Both in the express, or as the standalone Smart Grinder Pro, it has many failure points (and the grinder just isn't very good quality). If a deep cleaning didn't fix it, you may be out of luck as it's likely a mechanical failure happening.

If you can go niche and bambino out the gate then that's the right move. You're mostly spot on -The Express has a few extra features over the Bambino Plus, namely a pressure gauge and brew temp PID but the tech is overall very similar. The Niche is a MUCH better grinder than the internal grinder on the Express, as is something like the DF64 ...This is most certainly no setup to win barista competitions, it has some compromises here and there, but overall those mid-range all-in-one machines like BBE or Lelit Anita tend to perform nicely as a home espresso unit... ….
